I woke up early, but I didn’t feel like getting up, so I didn’t. Within reason, I have the ultimate ability to set my own schedule and structure each day how I want out here. When I want to stop and eat, I do. On the rare occasion where a nap sounds nice, I take one. If I want to hike into the night, I do. It is all part of the great freedom and flexibility I have the luxury of adapting into my own method of achieving a big goal. That is why I love this so much. It’s just walking, but full of small variables and challenges to overcome. Eventually I did get up, and felt much better about the prospects of the day after a few more minutes of toasting in my sleeping bag. It was a cold morning and most morning will likely be cold as I move through the Gila over the next couple days. While laying in my sleeping bag this morning, I thought through all the amazing things I have seen, experienced and challenges overcome in the last 5.5 months. It changed my whole demeanor to one of greatness for the opportunity to have a grand adventure once again. Despite some of the crazy snow and weather, it has been incredibly fun. Very soon, I will once again be walking unknown terrain and conquering primal challenges such as water and navigation. It was a productive day of fast miles between the two water sources. I think I am fueled by my upcoming right turn onto the Grand Enchantment Trail.
