Today I was playing roulette with the snowy slabs that laid over the trail. With the warmer temperatures and melting that has occurred post holing has become a serious issue. Post holing is when you are walking on top of snow and then out of nowhere the snowy ground swallows your entire leg. It is a very frustrating and takes much more energy than the normal strain walking on snow requires. There were great views of frozen lakes all day with further views of Rangley lake and the mountains looming in the distance I would soon be climbing. I hiked into the night in order to make up some of the time I lost from breaking gear as well as the slow plod walking through the snow has been.
