Favorite meal: aunt Vic’s dehydrated Hawaiian beans After being up half the night with an upset stomach I finally felt good enough to take some Advil and get a little sleep around 3am. It was not my most comfortable evening. Luckily when I woke up I felt much better. The whole series of events felt a lot like food poisoning. I walked through some cow pastures and as I neared ghost ranch I dropped into box canyon where the temperature immediately increased at least 10 degrees when I dropped in. Not only did the temperature increase but the terrain changed from transition forests to full on dessert. There were cacti and sagebrush and looked much more like Southern California than just a few miles before in Colorado. I got new shoes and a full resupply at ghost ranch then hiked just a few more miles. One of the luckiest moments of the trail was when a section hiker had finished his hike asked if I needed anything. For once I did tell him I could use a fuel canister and he pulled one out of his bag and gave it to me. It was quite a score since in this section it is pretty difficult to find fuel for my stove. I finished the day by seeing a rattlesnake and getting some great photos (will post on Facebook and Instagram soon). Then it was time to make up for all the sleep I missed last night.
