I was up and moving in the brisk morning quickly. As soon as I crawl out of my warm tent and sleeping bag I try to get everything packed and ready as quickly as possible. In this way I was moving down the trail fast and saw a surprising number of day hikers. Only surprising until I realized I am in the midst of Colorado’s tallest peaks and many of them are very accessible for people to climb and that is just what they were doing. I passed through Twin Lakes which is just a smaller general store and a single hotel and then went up into the mountains and over hope pass. After Hope pass in the deep valley is where the Collegiate wilderness begins. These are some of my favorites and some of the first 14k foot peaks I bagged in Colorado. They are the collegiate peaks because they have names like Harvard, Columbia, and Princeton. Tomorrow I will be above 11k and even 12k feet for much of the day.
