Day 183-Sprinting from thunder

CDT day 11-I had a great day going. The weather was cool with some clouds. I had 30 miles in by 3 but then the severe thunderstorms hit. It wouldn’t have been a problem if I hadn’t been in the middle of a bald spot on top of the continental divide. I channeled my inner Usain Bolt and began to sprint through the high meadow and down a jeep access road. I made it off the top safely but was dripping wet and saw even more questions clouds coming in behind. The weather can change out here in the blink of an eye. Turned my phone on and when the weather warned of severe thunderstorms for the next few hours I made the safe decision to go into Helena and wait out the storm instead of tempting fate. I found a good spot and made use of the Internet before finally deciding it was safe to get back to the trail around 730. Once back I put in 7 more miles to salvage a 37 mile day but after my good morning I had had my eye set on 50. Better safe than sorry.

Ending mile 371
